A BREWERY is celebrating more than 30 years of its active role in uplifting and supporting diverse groups of Malaysian communities, fostering positive change and growth in these communities.

Aligned with its Brew a Better World 2030 strategy, Heineken Cares programme is an initiative by Heineken Malaysia Bhd aimed at uplifting communities where it operates.

Building on its commitment, the company will continue its support of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) with initiatives to empower local communities, the brewery said in a media statement.

To kick off the programme, Heineken is supporting 120 low-income Indian families in Desa Mentari, Petaling Jaya in Selangor, with essential food items this festive season.

Orang asli women are trained in organic farming as part of the Heineken Cares initiative with Soroptimist International Region of Malaysia.

Heineken Malaysia managing director Martijn van Keulen said: “We believe that when our people, planet and surrounding communities are looked after, our business thrives.

“Over the last three decades, we have collaborated with strategic partners to uplift and support communities around our brewery and across various states, including Sabah and Sarawak.

“We are committed to continuing to make a positive impact where we operate by supporting those in need, staying true to our purpose of brewing the joy of true togetherness to inspire a better world.”

Through Heineken Cares, the company has invested in several initiatives like strengthening watershed protection, upskilling, uniting communities and empowerment beyond aid.

Heineken Cares initiatives include installing gravity water systems in villages to support communities and long-term water security.

Since 2007, Heineken Malaysia has invested RM15mil in protecting water resources and pledged an additional RM6mil through 2030, recognising that water is essential not only for environmental health but also for social well-being, supporting community health and resilience.

The brewery said that through awareness programmes and investments in nature-based solutions like river rehabilitation and reforestation, the company aims to support long-term water security in Sungai Way, Sungai Penchala and Sungai Selangor, in collaboration with NGO Global Environment Centre and local communities as well as in support of local government agencies.

The company also supported communities through its English Enrichment Training Programme by partnering with education experts to provide upskilling opportunities for 630 educators.

Over a period of 14 years, the company invested over RM6.6mil in the programme for participants from 369 institutions, comprising vernacular Tamil, Chinese and Sabah and Sarawak institutions.

For over 30 years, Heineken Malaysia has also invested in its Tiger Sin Chew Chinese Education Charity Concert programme, aimed at bringing communities together to raise funds for a greater cause.

Through the initiative, the company has raised over RM426mil for 549 institutions nationwide to improve facilities and enhance the learning environment.

Post-Covid-19 pandemic, the company is focused on long-term food security, collaborating with local communities to develop sustainable farming solutions in response to evolving needs.

The company has also supported communities by establishing rainwater harvesting systems and gravity water systems to improve clean water access.

These systems help communities by mitigating water disruptions, reducing reliance on treated water for non-potable usage and alleviating pressure on water resources.

Beneficiaries also receive training to maintain and manage the systems, fostering greater self-sufficiency.

“By working hand-in-hand with our partners and communities, we are able to make a lasting impact for underserved communities,” said Heineken Malaysia corporate affairs and legal director Renuka Indrarajah.

Keeping the momentum, Heineken Malaysia has launched a new phase of its Heineken Cares initiative.

The programme supports Hopes Malaysia, Soroptimist International Region of Malaysia, PWD Smart Farmability and MyKasih Foundation, focusing on important causes related to water access and food security.

The company invites the public to contribute and for each RM10 donated, Heineken Malaysia will top up with an additional RM40 towards the cause.

PayNet & ALR Encourages Motorists to Use MyDebit on KESAS, LDP, SMART and SPRINT

Sentuhan Ikhlas campaign aims to uplift low-income families

Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat (ALR) has partnered with Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) in launching Sentuhan Ikhlas, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) campaign that transforms every toll payment using MyDebit into an opportunity to support B40 families across Malaysia. Through this initiative, motorists using any of Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat’s 152 MyDebit enabled toll lanes on KESAS, LDP, SMART, and SPRINT, can now effortlessly contribute to supporting those in need.

Speaking at the launch event, Sazally Bin Saidi, Group Chief Executive Officer of ALR shared how Sentuhan Ikhlas embodies the power of collective kindness through everyday actions. “Each MyDebit payment at our tolls represents a small act of kindness that, together, makes impact on the lives of many. We hope this inspires more motorists to join us in helping fellow Malaysians in need.”

The campaign aims to release a total of RM500,000 to the MyKasih Foundation, upon reaching 5 million MyDebit transactions within a two-month period. Each MyDebit toll transaction made at these highways contributes to this goal – for every time a motorist taps to pay, PayNet will contribute the funds to MyKasih Foundation. This RM500,000 will enable 1,000 low-income families in Malaysia to purchase food and household essentials through the use of their MyKad.

The funds will be released in phases, as MyDebit transaction milestones are achieved:
RM100,000 after 1 million transactions;
RM150,000 at 2.5 million transactions; and
RM250,000 upon reaching 5 million transactions.

By participating in the Sentuhan Ikhlas campaign, motorists not only support a noble cause but also effortlessly benefit from the convenience and safety of payments using MyDebit on these highways. Choosing MyDebit is easy as every ATM card is a MyDebit card, and motorists also enjoy:

Security: Protected with bank-level encryption with built-in fraud detection systems
Convenience: Quick and easy toll payments without the need for reloading

Azrul Fakhzan Bin Mainor, Senior Director, Commercial Division, PayNet commented, “PayNet is excited to see MyDebit being integrated into daily motoring while making a positive impact on underserved communities. Furthermore, we hope that MyDebit continues to enhance convenience for motorists, simplifies toll payment while contributing to a meaningful cause. Through Sentuhan Ikhlas, every MyDebit transaction is an opportunity for all parties to drive positive impact.”

Adding to the sentiment, MyKasih Foundation stated, “MyKasih Foundation is appreciative of this collaboration made possible by Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat and PayNet to support 1,000 deserving families with food and essentials. This proves that collective kindness can build a stronger and more compassionate community for all.”

The Sentuhan Ikhlas campaign is a good reminder that even the smallest actions can make a significant impact. Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat and PayNet are calling on all motorists to be part of this meaningful initiative.

New initiative allows highway users to support the needy

PUCHONG: Highway users can now donate while paying their toll, thanks to a new initiative that allows motorists to support low-income families with every MyDebit transaction.

The Sentuhan Ikhlas campaign, a collaboration between Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat (ALR) with Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet), aims to channel toll payments made by motorists on four highways to those in need.

The highways involved are the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas), Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (Smart), and Sprint Highway.

Motorists can contribute using any of Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat’s 152 MyDebit-enabled toll lanes on the four highways.

ALR group chief executive officer Sazally Saidi said the campaign aims to raise RM500,000 for the MyKasih Foundation to help 1,000 B40 families purchase food and household essentials through their MyKad.

The initiative channels PayNet contributions to MyKasih Foundation for every toll payment made using MyDebit, with funds released in phases as transaction milestones are reached.

“Once five million MyDebit transactions are recorded over the next two months, the campaign will unlock a total of RM500,000, with RM100,000 released after one million transactions, RM150,000 at 2.5 million and RM250,000 when the five million mark is hit.

“By participating in the Sentuhan Ikhlas campaign, motorists not only support a noble cause but also benefit from the convenience and safety of making payments using MyDebit on these highways.

“We hope that the MyDebit system will continue to enhance convenience for motorists while enabling them to contribute to a meaningful cause,” he said at the campaign’s launch at the Puchong Selatan Toll Plaza on LDP here.

MyKasih Foundation is a charity organisation that aims to help underprivileged Malaysians through food aid and education.
