The government will commence the payments for Phase 1 of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) on Jan 22, 2025, to nearly nine million recipients.
With an increased allocation of RM2.3 billion, this initiative is part of the Madani government’s commitment to assist the recipients, or 60% of the adult population, in coping with the rising living costs. The maximum household rate has been raised to RM4,600, an increase of nearly 25% from RM3,700 in 2024. Single individuals will also benefit, with the minimum rate increasing to RM600 compared to RM500 last year.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister, stated that this increase reflects the government’s dedication to improving the welfare of the people despite the challenges posed by rising living expenses.
The payments for the STR will be disbursed in stages through bank account credits or cash payments via Bank Simpanan Nasional based on the eligibility categories of recipients.
New applications and updates for STR can be submitted throughout the year via the official STR portal.
